Tonight I did a random search to see if I could find a copy of the romance comic from which I take my icon (of three years) ... and found out that FIVE DAYS AGO, the original cover proof was auctioned online (not through ebay).
It sold for?
$31.
Just shoot me. Shoot me, shoot me, shoot me.

Can't I just SLAP you? It's much more
"Dynasty".. Ooooh! And we can
both wear shoulder pads, and we can have a
cat fight that lands us in a reflecting pool
at some swanky hotel or estate!

Thirty-one-dollars??? What was everyone
thinking...? Julia, it wasn't meant to be.
Let it go... There will be other things.
You're still young.

Overstreet #34 says that this was originally
advertised as Love Letters - "advertised
but never published; covers were printed
before cancellation and were used as the
cover to Love Lessons #1." Since a copy
of the comic itself is listed at $14 (good)
to $42 (fine) to $140 (near mint, unlikely),
that price for the cover proof seems
ridiculously low. Oh, well.

That is precisely what makes it sting so very much, Carl! And
that I missed it by mere days -- it was made
59 years ago, and I managed to come across it
five days too late!
Joe, I know, you're right -- there's nothing
else to do in this case but just let it go.
The other day I was searching for a good copy
of an audubon print I've had my eye on for a
long time, and accidentally happened upon theoriginal -- but it is $9000. What can you do ---
either you miss something by time, or money.
Oh well, I collect lots of things and have
had good luck in the past, and will again ...

BTW, sure wasn't meaning to rub it in! i was
surprised by the value; I have some similar
vintage romance comics that aren't worth much
at all.

I'm pretty sure that Love Lessons was
short-lived, and also that it went to a photo
cover after issue #1. Maybe that contributes
to its value?

O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is what you can do, just in case.
1. email the seller, telling them you are
interested in case the deal falls through.
They often do.
2. email the buyer, asking them what they
intend to do with this, and how much it means
to you. Maybe they bought it to sell at a
profit, and even if they double their money
you will be owning something you'll treasure
your whole life!

Julia, I agree with srk1941. I think this
will work out in your favor, with a little
polite emailing.

Good idea, SRK ... I contacted the auction
house and hopefully they pass on my
information as requested.
Lorenzo, what a great thought! Of course, it
won't be the original proof, but I would love
a copy of the comic itself, of course! I'm
good for it, y'all!
